Almost 30 was started in Green Bay, WI, in August 2002 by three guys with broken livers who had to find something to do in their spare time besides drink.

Paul Fruzyna and Shea Nimocks met back in high school and have been friends ever since. They spent many years skateboarding, hanging out, and listening to music before they put their first band together. Union Yes was started during Paul and Shea’s senior year of high school. They played a few shows, including their first live show in front of capacity audience at the City Center Theater in Green Bay.

After high school, Paul and Shea went their separate ways to college. In the summer of 1993, they put together a band that would only last the summer, Arabesque. Throughout their college years, Paul and Shea kept in touch, but they never got around to forming another band. Paul played guitar and sang in Staplegun and Bessemer while attending Marquette University in Milwaukee.

After college, Paul and Shea both moved back to Green Bay to become responsible adults. Although this has yet to happen, they both knew that they wanted to start a band again. After many attempts with people who didn’t have the same ideas, or were just plain too talented, Paul met Phil LeQua through his girlfriend. Phil had a background in metal, playing in the a death metal band Spawn about the same time Paul and Shea were in Union Yes.

At the first practice, things clicked and it seemed like the band thing would once again happen. Phil brought a list of names his girlfriend had put together to one of the first few practices. One name on the list, Almost 30, seemed to fit, because it captured the significance of three guys teetering on the edge of old age. Almost 30 is taking a laid back approach to its music, playing basement band punk rock and having fun at the same time.

We are almost 30. We are Almost 30. American punk rock since 2002.
